Opening Web Links
With you can analyze a recording published on a website, for example a performance on a video or social media site. VoceVista downloads its sound, and its picture if you like, into a folder on your computer and opens it like any other file. Opening web links is available in VoceVista Video and VoceVista Pro.
In short:
-
On the website, click Share next to the video and choose Copy link (see Copying the Link).
-
In VoceVista, choose and click Paste Link.
-
Choose whether you want the sound only or the video too.
-
Click Open.
Downloading is done by an optional external component. The first time you paste a link, VoceVista asks you to agree to its terms, then installs the component and keeps it up to date for you.
Copying the Link
Most video and social media websites have a Share button next to each video or post. Click it and choose the option that copies the link, usually called Copy link or Copy. This is the easiest way to get the right link.
If you cannot find a Share button, open the video in your web browser and copy the web address from the bar at the top of the window instead.
The link has to lead to a single video. A link to a playlist or to a whole channel does not work: open the video you want and copy its own link. If the video is part of a playlist, only that video is downloaded.
The Open Web Link Dialog
- Video Link (URL)
-
Click Paste Link to insert the link you copied. You can also paste or type it into the field yourself and then press the Tab key. VoceVista checks the link and shows how long the recording is or, in red, why it cannot be opened (see When a Link or Download Fails). To have the link pasted automatically when the dialog opens, see Auto paste weblinks when opening web link dialog.
- Save into Local Folder

Choosing Audio and Video
Most websites offer a recording in several qualities, which the Audio and Video lists show with their size. The best sound quality is preselected.
-
For the voice alone, set Video to none - download audio only. This is the smallest and quickest download.
-
To see the singer too, choose a picture size under Video, such as 720p or 1080p. Larger sizes look sharper but take longer to download.
VoceVista remembers whether your last download included video, and in which size.
Downloading and Opening
Click Open to start the download. When it is complete, VoceVista opens the recording. A file of the same name in that folder is replaced.
Video is often saved as two files side by side, one for the picture and one for the sound, both under the name you chose. VoceVista opens them together. Keep the two files in the same folder and do not rename them.
Websites That Ask You to Sign In
Some websites show certain recordings only to visitors who are signed in. VoceVista then tries again using your sign-in to that website in Firefox, and on a Mac also in Safari. Other browsers cannot be used for this. If the website still refuses, sign in to it in one of these browsers, then paste the link again.
When a Link or Download Fails
When a link cannot be opened, the dialog says why, in red. When a download fails, a message explains it:
- This link is a playlist or channel
-
Open the video itself and copy its own link (see Copying the Link).
- This link is not supported
-
Check that the link leads to a single video, or copy it again with the website’s Share button.
- The website could not be reached, This link took too long to read
-
Check your internet connection and try again.
- The website refused the request
-
Try again. If it keeps failing, sign in to the website (see Websites That Ask You to Sign In).
- This video is unavailable, This video is not available in your country
-
The video is private, removed or restricted to certain viewers or countries.
- The selected format is no longer offered
-
Paste the link again to reload the list.
- This website could not be read
