VoceVista Video 6.0.0

Version 6.0.0 is a major upgrade for all editions of VoceVista Video. The biggest new feature is full video support: you can now record, edit and play back video alongside your audio analysis. The release also adds native touch gestures on macOS, dark mode on macOS and Windows 11, the ability to record the played-back spectrogram as a video, separate display of the stereo channels, and a long list of smaller improvements and fixes.

This is a preliminary release. Some features are still being refined, and further changes are expected before the final 6.0.0.

Video

VoceVista Video 6.0.0 introduces a new, hardware-accelerated video engine. You can open a video, play it back in sync with the analysis, edit it together with the audio, and record new video from a camera.

Playback and editing

Play video in sync with the spectrogram and waveform, with zoom, pan and free rotation.
Frame-accurate scrubbing along the timeline.
Edit video together with the audio, including projects that combine several media files.

Recording

Record video from a camera or webcam, with a live preview and a dedicated camera settings dialog.
On macOS, the program asks for camera permission when recording starts.

Placement

Show the video as a floating overlay, tiled, on top, next to the waveform, or to the right of the timeline.
“Fit frame to video” sizes the frame to the picture, and letterboxed videos are detected and cropped automatically.

Supported formats

Opens iPhone HDR video (mapped to the screen’s color range), 10-bit video, high frame rate video up to 120 fps, and video files without an audio track.
File Properties now shows media information such as resolution and frame rate.

Export

Export individual video frames as images.
Export video with lossless audio (ALAC).

Exporting the analysis as a video

You can now record the moving spectrogram and the other analysis views, together with the sound, and save the result as a video file. You can choose whether to capture the material as edited or as you hear it during playback.

Touch gestures on macOS

On macOS you can use trackpad gestures directly in the analysis views. Pinch to zoom and use two fingers to pan on the spectrum, the waveform and the scale strips, on the amplitude and vibrato scales, on the EGG history, and in the Vowel Chart.

Dark mode

VoceVista Video now supports dark mode on both macOS and Windows 11. Icons, accent colors and dialog elements follow the light or dark appearance, and new installations default to the dark theme. On Windows, the program uses the current Windows 11 visual style.

Separate stereo channels

Stereo files can be shown as two separate lanes, one for the left channel and one for the right, instead of a single combined waveform. Each lane has its own controls to select, solo or mute it, and lanes are labeled Left, Right, Audio or EGG.

Other new features

Project files. Save your work as a project, including markers, edits and links to the media files, and reopen it later. You can also export a project as a single self-contained archive to move it to another computer or attach it to a support request.
Import and align an audio track. Import a separate audio recording of the same performance and let the program align it to the session automatically.
Open online videos. Download the audio, the video, or both from an online link, with separate format choices for audio and video and support for sites that require login cookies.
Record system audio on macOS. Capture the sound of the whole system or of a single application.
Record the output of the tone generator.
Improved marker search, with faster full-text search, the matching text highlighted in the results, and a new tool to clean up the marker database.
A new audio export dialog with compression settings for each format and a choice between exporting the edited file or what you hear.
A sample files browser that downloads the example files on demand.
A filter list view and a revised visual design for the frequency filters.
Customizable toolbars with new icon sets, and a new options page for mouse and modifier settings.
Registration of supported file types with the operating system, so you can open files directly from the Finder or Explorer.
Automatic scrolling when the play cursor reaches the edge of the window.
Support for FLAC files with 24-bit and 32-bit samples.
Numbers now follow the decimal separator of your language, for example 44,1 kHz.
Pressing Escape closes dialogs, the rulers are less intrusive, and lines are drawn more sharply on high-resolution (Retina) displays.
