VoceVista does not start after installing an older version
This can happen on Windows if you install an older version of VoceVista on a computer that already has version 6 or later: the old installer puts its files into the new version's folder. Installing the current version again fixes it, and keeps your settings, your files and your license.
Which versions are affected
Two editions were renamed in version 6.0, and only these two are affected:
- VoceVista Basic, called Overtone Analyzer up to version 5.
- VoceVista Pro, called VoceVista Video Pro up to version 5.
VoceVista Video kept its name, so its older installers simply replace the newer version. On the Mac, each version is a separate app in the Applications folder, so this problem does not occur there.
What you see
-
Starting VoceVista Basic or VoceVista Pro shows an error titled
Entry Point Not Found, for example:
VoceVista Basic.exe - Entry Point Not Found
The name after "procedure entry point" can differ.
The procedure entry point ?staticMetaObject@QIcon@@2UQMetaObject@@B could not be located in the dynamic link library C:\Program Files\Sygyt Software\VoceVista Basic\VoceVista Basic.exe. - In Settings ▸ Apps ▸ Installed apps, the program is listed under its old name, for example Overtone Analyzer 5.11.1 instead of VoceVista Basic 6.
- The Start menu has an entry with the old name (Overtone Analyzer or VoceVista Video Pro) again.
How to fix it
- Download the current version from our download page.
- Run the installer. It replaces the files of the older version with the current ones, and removes the older version's Start menu and desktop shortcuts.
- Start VoceVista Basic or VoceVista Pro as usual.
Your settings, your recordings and your license stay as they were. You do not need to enter your activation code again.
If the older version was pinned to the taskbar, its icon stays there without a program behind it: right-click it and choose Unpin from taskbar.
Please do not uninstall first: uninstalling removes the settings stored in the Windows registry, including your license, so VoceVista would ask for your activation code again afterwards.
Why this happens
For Windows, the renamed program is still the same product under a new name. That is what lets version 6 update the old version in place and carry your settings and license over. It also means that an older installer finds version 6 and installs into its folder. The folder then holds a mix of old and new files. Version 6 cannot start with the older program libraries, and the list of installed apps shows the old name.
If you want to go back to an older version
Uninstall the current version first, then install the older one:
- Open Settings ▸ Apps ▸ Installed apps, find VoceVista Basic or VoceVista Pro, and choose Uninstall. This also releases your activation, so that it is available for the older version.
- Install the older version. If you no longer have its installer, you can download it from our older versions page.
- Start it and enter your activation code.
The older version starts with its default settings, because version 6 keeps its settings under the new name.
